For a detailed explanation about Coding Gym, please check out the about page.
Is it a contest?
Absolutely no! Coding Gym is a non-competitive and collaborative environment.
Do I need to install special programs?
Absolutely no! All our sessions are hosted by HackerRank so all you need is a browser.
Just create an account on HackerRank and sign up for the specific contest you find on the session details.
Should I bring my laptop?
Usually yes but it depends on the specific session you attend. Check the event detail and, if you are in doubt, feel free to ask the trainers.
I don’t know programming. Can I attend?
Sure! You can work with anyone who does. Learning by doing is one of our core principles.
What’s the difficulty of each exercise?
The idea behind Coding Gym is that every problem has value.
Usually we set a (averagely) challenging exercise and two others more open to discussion and alternatives.
We consider that:
- you might come after having worked for 8-12 hours;
- no special skills are required;
- a challenge might be easy but part of the practice is a discussion about tradeoffs and variations.
You can see past exercises grouped per city here. We heartly recommend to check just your city to avoid spoilers :)
Which programming languages are available?
Pretty much any language. We use HackerRank so please check the list of supported languages.
Should I come alone or with a peer (since Coding Gym is in pairs)?
You will find your mate at the session. We heartly encourage to collaborate with people you do not know and to rotate partners! Anyway, this choice is totally up to you.
